Understand The God Who Speaks

A few words about us

I am Dale Moreau, founder of “Understand the God Who Speaks.” My training is in theological studies. I have degrees in biblical theology, biblical languages, and Christian philosophy. Many years ago, my calling was the ministry. I left the ministry in the ‘80’s and headed down a different path. After many years in the wilderness, I have returned to the ministry and created this website for you. My prayer is it will help you understand the Word of God in a meaningful and profound way. I want to challenge you to study God’s Word. It is the book of answers and truth that the world so desperately needs. We want to share God’s truth with you. We not only interpret Scripture for you but we show you how to interpret the Bible. Bible reading is a two-fold approach. (1) “What it meant.” (2) “What it means.” We show you how to find what it meant to the biblical author and translate that into what it means for you.

Love for the Bible

The Bible has inherent worth demanding considerable attention. It contains ecclesiastical, social, theological, and psychological concerns found only in the Scriptures. These concerns are not found in any other source. The Spirit inspired the Scriptures. He breathed life into the Scriptures in matters sufficient for redemptive purposes. He guides the Body of Christ in matters of biblical edification (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 1 Cor. 12:7). Our love for the Scriptures compels us to create this website. The Bible has relevance today and tomorrow, no matter what kind of culture dominates. Evangelical churches have forgotten how to study the text. The rules of interpreting the Bible have been swept under the rug far too long. It is time the Church reclaims and shares the rules of biblical interpretation with all people. The world would be much better off if the Church did.

Why Study the Bible

We must ask ourselves, “Is it true because it is in the Bible, or is it in the Bible because it is true?” If we say it is true because the Bible says it to be so, truth becomes limited to the Bible. If we say it is in the Bible because it is true, then truth has found its way into the Bible from an outside source. God is outside of His creation, including the Bible, and the embodiment of truth. The Bible conveys His special kind of truth. It is beyond natural revelation. It is beyond what men could discover on their own, and beyond self-evidence. Truth begins with God as revealed through His Son and Spirit in His written Word. We need the rules of uncovering the meaning of divine revelation. We dedicate this website to helping people discover the way of uncovering the depth of truth in His word.

Today’s generation wants answers. They want to know truth, not on a skin-deep level, but in a depth that ocean’s bounty has not fathomed. Skeptical people need more than flimsy evidence. They need something convincing them God’s Word is relevant. A lot of empty-headed people are spouting what they claim is truth in the Scriptures. Their claims about truth are hollow on the inside. This website and podcast dedicate themselves to help you find the deeper things of God in His word.

Let us heed the words of Jesus, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6). But also let’s remember what the Apostle Paul said: “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works” (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

Many non-Christians try to tear down the meaning of God’s word. They attempt to turn people away from Christ with bad information. Christians need equipping. They need understanding in His revealed truth to meet hallowed arguments head on. They need the harbingers of truth from His Word to counteract false assumptions. Many of you have given your hearts to Jesus. Have you given your heart to study His Word? Do you know how to use it as a shield and sword against evil, to defend the faith, and edify the Body of Christ? My fervent prayer is this website and podcast help you along the way in your journey.

Statement of Faith

Christian Authority

We believe in a stair-step model of authority with the Triune God at the top and experience at the bottom: Christian authority is the ethical Triune God as revealed in the Scriptures, as conveyed through Christian heritage, and as met in experience both individual and corporate. This gives us a full-range of sources to draw from in matters of the defense of the faith, ethical behavior, redemptive relationships, and edification of people outside and inside the Church.

The Holy Scriptures

We believe the Scripture are set apart as the divine revelation of God, and all sixty-six books are God-breathed and instructions for faith and life. We believe the Holy Scriptures should be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning. They lead us to Jesus Christ, who is the way, the truth, and the life to the Father, and rightly interpreted, they enable us to understand God’s revelation in human nature and history (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21; John 14:6).

The Godhead

We believe the Godhead is one divine moral being in three persons – Father, Son and the Holy Spirit, who is ethical, omnipotent and perfect in every way in which He acts and speaks. In love He created the world and man to join him in the grand enterprise of ruling over creation with God as King and man as his vicegerent. Each person of the Trinity is co-eternal, co-identical, and co-equal in moral character, power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections (Genesis 1:24-25; Exodus 34:6-7; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; John 14:10, 26).

Fallen Humanity.

We believe man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam’s sin, the entire human race failed, inherited a sinful nature that commits an act of rebellion against God at the age of accountability and cooperates with the Evil One to solidify all humans as sinners. Apart from divine grace, all human beings are incapable of a remedy for their lost condition (Genesis 1:26-27; Romans 3:22-23; 5:12; 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-3; 4:17-19).

God’s Remedy

We believe God made all creation good, that man and the Evil One have cooperated to distort and destroy it. But God is moving to remedy the problem by drawing back all creation to Himself, and all creation will be drawn back to Him through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, except rebellious men and spirits. The promises to Abraham, David and the prophets are fulfilled in Jesus Christ, the mediator of the New Covenant, the redeemer of fallen humanity, and the inaugurator of the new creation. The Holy Spirit is the sign of promise in this life that the new creation begins now in the man who accepts Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Man cannot pull himself by his own bootstraps but must rely on the unadulterated grace that comes at the foot of the cross and the resurrection of Jesus Christ to remedy his sin problem (Genesis 1:1-31; 3:1-4; Ephesians 1:9-10; 2:1-3; 2:8-9; Colossians 1:20).

The Person and Work of Jesus Christ

We believe that the Son of God, while fully divine, became fully human through the virgin birth to save the world from sin. Living a sinless life in perfect obedience to His Father, Jesus proclaimed God’s reign in word and deed. In his mercy he atoned for our sins by dying in our place. Having satisfied the punishment for sin on our behalf, he rose bodily and triumphantly over sin, death, and Satan. He then ascended to heaven, sent the Holy Spirit to lead and empower his church, and is seated at the Father’s right hand where he reigns and intercedes for His people (Isaiah 7:14; 9:6; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-2, 14; 2 Corinthians 5:19-21; Galatians 4:4-5; Philippians 2:5-8; Acts 2:18-36; Romans 3:24-25; 1 Peter 2:24; Ephesians 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3-5; Acts 1:9-10; Hebrews 9:24; 7:25; Romans 8:34; 1 John 2:1-2).

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit was promised as our comforter by Jesus Christ and descended at Pentecost to establish the church; that he uses the Word of God to give new life to those who repent of their sin and believe in Christ; and that all who by faith alone receive Christ’s finished work are by God’s grace united with Christ, justified by his shed blood, adopted into the family of God, forgiven of all their sin, indwelt and gifted by the Spirit, and added to the church (John 14:26; 16:8; Acts 2:1-13).

The Second Coming of Christ

We believe the personal, imminent, visible, and bodily return of Jesus Christ will consummate history and the eternal plan of establishing His earthly Messianic Kingdom in the new creation which was promised to the nation of Israel. (Psalm 89:3-4; Daniel 2:31-45; Zechariah 14:4-11; I Thessalonians 1:10; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Revelation 3:10; 19:11-16; 20:1-6).

The Great Commission

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ commanded all believers to take back the nations of sinful men and put them under the Lordship of Jesus Christ through the proclamation of the Gospel throughout the world, and to disciple men and women of every tongue, ethnicity, and race of every nation. As ambassadors of Christ we must use all available means to go to the foreign nations and not wait for them to come to us. (Matthew 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; 2 Corinthians 5:20).
